Hats Off to Teddy

We find at this time of years that our Panama Style Hats are flying out the door - and that got us wondering about their history . . .

The Panama, or Toquilla, Straw Hat is traditionally a straw brimmed hat made in Ecuador where local producers have been hand-weaving them since the 17th century!

It was a favourite with prospectors heading for the Californian gold rush . . . But it was really Theodore Roosevelt who increased their popularity after he was photographed wearing one on the construction site of the Panama Canal.

Our Panama Style Hat may not be hand woven in Ecuador - but it's still superb quality at an amazing price. It's foldable too and even comes in its own reusable storage tube to help preserve its shape - and ensure that it's easy-pack. Perfect for your suitcase!

The Jolliman office, customer care team, shop and warehouse will be closed on Monday 27th May 2013 for the Bank Holiday. However the call centre will continue to take orders as normal. Our couriers will not be operating on Monday 27th May 2013; this applies to both deliveries and collections.

It's Official - We're History!

If you’re looking for a good day out this Bank Holiday weekend, you may consider a trip to The Black Country Living Museum.

We were delighted when an eagle-eyed customer called us to say he had spotted a pair of Jolliman Trousers on display in the window of one of the museum’s shops, H Morrall Mens Wear Specialist.

After a little investigation, the museum kindly sent photos of the shop and the trousers for us to see. Unfortunately we have reused some of our product codes over the years, so it’s been difficult to identify exactly which trousers these are, but we believe them to be the Original Derby Tweed Trousers which we sold in the early 1990s – or Flannel Trousers from the late 1970s!

Whatever they are, we’re just pleased they're showcasing the tradition and history of Jolliman. Special thanks to The Black Country Living Museum for their research – and to the mystery customer who spotted them!

Bank Holiday Opening Hours

The Jolliman Customer Care Team and Warehouse will be closed for the bank holiday weekend, and will resume normal working hours on Tuesday 7th May 2013.

Our buyer, Richard, will be making the most of the sun as he's planning a trek on the Sussex downs. And he'll be taking our new Regatta Daypack with him.
